David Ficker, M.D. is the director of the Cincinnati Epilepsy Center -- University of Cincinnati Department of Neurology. His five member team is a key element is the department being rated as a national research funding leader by the National Institutes of Health (NIH): 10th out of 70 receiving NIH grants and 3rd among publicly funded institutions. Ficker, a Cincinnati native and Elder High School graduate, received his BS (Phi Beta Kappa) and MD (Alpha Omega Alpha) degrees from the University of Cincinnati. He is currently adding to his advanced neurology and epilepsy/clinical neurophysiology training from the Mayo Clinic with an NIH K23 Award that is funding his research on health-related quality of life factors in epilepsy. This K23 Award patient-oriented research, to be published in 2005, is aimed at improving overall patient outcomes, as well as further developing Ficker and his team's skills. Ficker has been an assistant professor at UC since 1997. He is married with 3 children and currently resides in Anderson Township.
